My love letter to my community,

With all of the hussle and bustle of our busy adult lives,

we often forget the childhood summer heat hives.

Those hot summer days with sweat on our brow,

we all just want one ice cold thing…. like right now.

To go up to our favorite local spot,

collect all of the dollar bills and coins that we had sought.

To go up to the counter and ask for one shave ice.

Not just one… but the same thing twice.

Can we order mango, guava, blue vanilla too.

Don’t forget, make that x2!

You can’t have a shave ice without mochi, ice cream, and snow cap.

Ho, Aunty stacked the mochi so high “Shoot! it fell on my lap!”

Sticky from all of the condensed milk and the juice flavors,

“Eh, that’s okay the cold ice is a lifesaver.”

Now don’t forget, just because we’re adulting…

to NOT get a shave ice is insulting.
